Edexcel BTEC National Certificate in Health and Social Care

The Edexcel Level 3 BTEC National Certificate in Health and Social Care consists of 8 core units plus specialist units that provide for a combined total of 720 guided learning hours for the completed qualification.

Core units:

  • Developing effective communication in health and social care
  • Equality, diversity and rights in health and social care
  • Health, safety and security in health and social care
  • Development through the life stages
  • Fundamentals of anatomy and physiology for health and social care
  • Personal and professional development in health and social care
  • Sociological perspectives for health and social care
  • Psychological perspectives for health and social care
  • Plus approx. 4 Specialist units

In addition to the guided learning hours each learner will be required to participate in approx. 100 hours of vocational practise in the work place.

Level 2

Edexcel BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care

The Edexcel Level 2 BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care consists of 2 core units plus 4 specialist units that provide for a combined total of 360 guided learning hours for the completed qualification.

Core units:

  • Communication and individual rights within the health and social care sectors
  • Individual needs within the health and social care sectors

Plus 4 specialist units from the following list:

  • Vocational experience in a health or social care setting
  • Cultural diversity in health and social care
  • Anatomy and physiology for health and social care
  • Human lifespan development
  • Creative and therapeutic activities in health and social care
  • Health and social care services
  • The impact of diet on health

In addition to the guided learning hours each learner will be required to participate in vocational practise in the work place.

Edexcel BTEC First Certificate in Health and Social Care

The Edexcel Level 2 BTEC First Certificate in Health and Social Care consists of 2 core units plus 1 specialist unit that provides for a combined total of 180 guided learning hours for the completed qualification.

Core units:

  • Communication and individual rights within the health and social care sectors
  • Individual needs within the health and social care sectors

Plus 1 specialist unit from the following list:

  • Vocational experience in a health or social care setting
  • Cultural diversity in health and social care
  • Anatomy and physiology for health and social care
  • Human lifespan development

In addition to the guided learning hours each learner will be required to participate in vocational practise in the work place.

Award in Health and Social Care

Certificate in Health and Social Care

To achieve the First Award in Health and Social Care, you have to achieve four mandatory units (units 1, 2, 3 and 4).

To achieve the National Award in Health and Social Care, you have to achieve five mandatory units (units 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) and complete three optional units.

To achieve the National Certificate in Health and Social Care, you have to complete twelve units consisting of the six mandatory units and six optional units.

Mandatory units:

  • Unit 1 — Working as a team in health and social care
  • Unit 2 — Investigating health and social care provision
  • Unit 3 — Introducing practical caring
  • Unit 4 — Investigating options for work in health and social care
  • Unit 5 — Communication skills in health and social care
  • Unit 6 — Problem solving in health and social care

All work is coursework based.
