Level 3

Edexcel BTEC National Certificate in Children's Care, Learning and Development

The Edexcel Level 3 BTEC National Certificate in Children's Care, Learning and Development consists of 7 core units plus specialist units that provide for a combined total of 720 guided learning hours for the completed qualification.

Core units:

  • Positive relationships for children's care, learning and development
  • Positive environments for children's care, learning and development
  • Promoting children's development
  • Reflecting on and developing practise for children aged 0-8
  • Protecting children
  • Promoting children's rights
  • Children's learning activities and play
  • Plus additional specialist units

In addition to the guided learning hours each learner will be required to participate in 800 hours of vocational practise in the work place.

CACHE Level 3 NVQ Children's Care, Learning and Development

This NVQ at Level 3 is a 9-Unit qualification comprising 5 core units and 4 specialist units.

Core units:

  • Develop and promote positive relationships
  • Develop and maintain a healthy, safe and secure environment for children
  • Promote children's development
  • Reflect on and develop practice
  • Protect and promote children's rights
  • Plus approx. 4 specialist units

In addition to the guided learning hours each learner will be required to participate in 5 hours of vocational practise in the work place each week.

Level 2

Edexcel BTEC First Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development

The Edexcel Level 2 BTEC First Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development consists of 5 core units plus 1 specialist unit that provide for a combined total of 360 guided learning hours for the completed qualification.

Core units:

  • Understanding children's development
  • Keeping children safe
  • Communication with children and adults
  • Preparing and maintaining environments for child care
  • Professional development, roles and responsibilities in child care

Plus 1 of the following specialist units:

  • Supporting children's play and learning
  • The development and care of babies and young children under three years
  • Providing support for children with disabilities or special educational needs

In addition to the guided learning hours each learner will be required to participate in a minimum of 300 hours of vocational practise in the work place.

Edexcel BTEC First Certificate in Children's Care, Learning and Development

The Edexcel Level 2 BTEC First Certificate in Children's Care, Learning and Development consists of 3 core units that provide for a combined total of 180 guided learning hours for the completed qualification.

Core units:

  • Understanding children's development
  • Keeping children safe
  • Communication with children and adults

In addition to the guided learning hours each learner will be required to participate in 60 hours of vocational practise in the work place.

CACHE Level 2 Children's Care, Learning and Development

This NVQ course is a 7-Unit qualification comprising 6 core units plus 1 specialist unit.

Core units:

  • Contribute to positive relationships
  • Help to keep children safe
  • Support children's development
  • Use support to develop own practice in children's care, learning and development
  • Prepare and maintain environments to meet children's needs
  • Support children's play and learning
  • Plus approx. 1 specialist unit

In addition to the guided learning hours each learner will be required to participate in 5 hours of vocational practise in the work place each week.

Foundation Level OCR Entry Level Child Development

The purpose of the course is to provide candidates with the opportunity to study both the practical and theoretical aspects of child development. The knowledge gained would enable candidates to develop an understanding of the development of young children up to the sixth birthday and create a foundation for further study. This course consists of 5 core units plus 2 mandatory integrated units.

  • Parenthood and pregnancy
  • Physical development
  • Nutrition and health
  • Intellectual, social and emotional development
  • The family and the community
  • ICT
  • Citizenship

Candidates are required to complete: five Resource Tasks, one from each area of the specification content, an Extended Task and a Development Task.
