Carpentry and Joinery

City & Guilds 6217-02, 6217-05 and the Intermediate Construction Award

The City & Guilds are a Level 1 qualification which can be achieved within the first year of studies. It will include periods of work placement to show employers the skills and knowledge achieved.

The Intermediate Construction Award is studied during the second year. The ICA is enhanced when the learner starts work and this training leads to NVQ Level 2 in Wood Occupations.

Candidates learn all aspects of the trade including:

  • Basic woodworking joints
  • Producing and using working drawings
  • Using hand tools, portable power tools and woodwork machinery
  • Bench and site joinery production
  • Health and safety
  • Access equipment

All learners are encouraged to achieve basic levels of literacy, numeracy and assistive technologies.
