Communication Skills
Sign Language Department
British Sign Language is the first language for many of the learners at Doncaster College for the Deaf and an integral part of their culture and identity.
British Sign Language (BSL) is offered to all students in addition to their main course whether they have existing signing skills or not, to enable them to be able to communicate more effectively with staff and other students.
Sign Language
Sign Language is taught by a small but highly qualified and dedicated team of deaf staff. They are able to adapt their style and pace to allow students with learning and physical disabilities equal access to achieve CACDP qualifications.
CACDP have recently made amendments to all of their qualifications. Students now taking BSL Levels 1 and 2 are able to take the three units separately to achieve the full certificate.
Students with good signing and recommended by their English tutors may be offered the opportunity to take their BSL NVQ Level 3.
Pre-Level 3 classes, voice-over classes and BSL NVQ Level 4 are also available.
In addition to BSL training the department offers and delivers Deaf Awareness to local industry and the community.
