Welcome to Doncaster College for the DeafWe have excellent facilities to educate and train deaf and hearing-impaired young people and adults. We are committed to providing them with the skills they need to become self-reliant in leading purposeful and fulfiling lives. This means ensuring deaf and hearing-impaired people have the opportunity to gain qualifications that enable them to secure employment. We teach our students life skills and seek to build the self-esteem and self-confidence necessary to take up the many challenges that face every citizen. We champion the right of deaf people to choose a learning environment where they are in a community of deaf people. We are proud of the fact that the resources we have to offer are the means by which people, otherwise precluded from learning, become included in a learning society. We have a long history and draw resolve from it; we are also a forward-looking organisation. We know that for a proportion of hearing-impaired people, the level of expertise, and the knowledge and skills that we offer are absolutely essential. We have many students who are now engaged in learning, realising their full potential; students who were unable to flourish without the specialist services we deliver. We have made that difference in the lives of many people and are committed to continuing to do so with increasing effectiveness. This prospectus provides an insight into what we have to offer. For a full picture you need to come and visit, to meet our students and staff and tour our campus. We are always willing to arrange visits for those with a professional interest, prospective students, their relatives, advocates or supporters. Additionally, we have regular 'Open Days' when we welcome visitors with a diversity of reasons for wanting to know more about the quality of our provision. Whatever the nature of your interest, if you want to find out more – you only have to ask! Alan Robinson |
